Climate change is a globally acknowledged problem. This is motivating the Canadian timber industry to advocate the use of tall engineered timber structures. These structures are built with engineered timber products which rely on gypsum board encapsulation to protect the material from fire. The breakdown and decomposition of gypsum board in high temperatures is not well understood. Vortex Fire, the industry partner, has a need for an improved understanding of gypsum board degradation in fire and a subsequent need to develop modelling technologies for use in the design of Canadian built infrastructure. Our research objective is to work with them to develop these technologies.
