In der vorliegenden Arbeit wurden die Anwendungsmöglichkeiten von Biegeträgern aus Brettsperrholz bei Beanspruchung in Plattenebene untersucht. Mit Hilfe numerischer und analytischer Methoden wurden die für die Bemessung von Brettsperrholzträgern erforderlichen Ansätze für den Nachweis der Biege- und der Schubtragfähigkeit sowie zur Berechnung der Verformungen entwickelt und hergeleitet.

Summary
Various kind of in-plane bending tests of cross laminated timber (CLT) with different shapes have been previously carried out. The results indicate that the bending strength of CLT loaded in plane reduces as the number of layer increases. To evaluate this lamination effect on in-plane bending strength of CLT, a computational model based on Monte Carlo method was developed. The estimated bending strength showed the same tendency.

Summary
Cross laminated timber (CLT) is a versatile engineered timber product that is increasingly well-known and of global interest in several applications such as full size plane or linear timber elements. The aim of this study involves investigating the performance of CLT beams loaded in-plane by considering bending and shear stress analysis with a special emphasis on the in-plane shear behavior including the complex internal structure of CLT. Numerical analysis based on 3D-FE models was used and compared with two existing analytical approaches, namely representative volume sub element (method I) and composite beam theory (method II). The separate verification of bending and shear stresses including tree different shear failure modes was performed, and a good agreement was obtained. The main difference between the results relates to shear failure mode in the crossing areas between the orthogonally bonded lamellas in which the distribution of shear stresses tzx over the crossing areas per height of the CLT beam is not in accordance with the analytical assumptions. The presented analyses constitute the first attempt to contribute to the on-going review process of Eurocode 5 with respect to CLT beams loaded-in plane. Currently, regulations on designing these types of beams do not exist, and thus experimental and numerical investigations are planned in the future.

Summary
Cross-laminated timber (CLT) has recently emerged as a new wood product that utilizes a large quantity of domestic lumber. This study aims to analyze the effects of width and lay-ups on the tensile strength of CLT. To this end, the elastic modulus of sugi CLT with different lay-ups was measured by dynamic and static methods. Moreover, tensile tests were conducted for different widths and lay-ups of CLT. Results indicate that the apparent bending Young’s modulus, as calculated using the dynamic method, is directly proportional to the measured Young’s modulus in static method for each lay-up. Furthermore, there was no significant effect of width on the tensile strength in the range of 150, 300, and 600 mm. However, the variations in lay-ups affected the tensile strength as follows: CLT with larger ratio of the major strength direction lamina along the cross-section and with higher grade of lamina in the major strength direction showed higher tensile strength. The estimated tensile strength of CLT, as calculated using the Young’s modulus of the lamina of each layer, and the tensile strength of lamina as simple substance was found to be in good agreement with the measured tensile strength of CLT.
